Manchester United are hoping Gareth Bale can rescue their bid to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

United are convinced a successful £85million Real Madrid swoop for the Spurs hero will open the door for Ronaldo to return.

Real president Florentino Perez claims Ron will pen a new deal but the Portuguese superstar has yet to make his mind up on his future.

Perez has already hinted Real are ready to make a world record bid for Bale.

He would be the perfect replacement for Ronaldo and United are confident that despite interest from Paris St Germain Ronaldo will only sign for them if he leaves Spain.

United will offer Real £65m  plus a player like Nani or Javier Hernandez  if they get the green light from Ronaldo.Perez has smashed the transfer record four times to get Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Kaka and Ronaldo and Bale could be next.

He said: “For those players and investments that generate income, you can give everything in life.

“But we don’t speak of Bale so much because he plays at a friendly club and they will be annoyed.”

Perez’s main priority remains getting Ronaldo on a new deal with only two years left on his current contract. He added:

“I would bet Cristiano will retire at Real Madrid.”
