The hysteria of Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid unveiling has led the club to provide him with round-the-clock bodyguards.
The club intend to hire three men to escort the world record £80million signing from Manchester United and will double the overall playing-squad security personnel at the club from eight to 16 following the arrival of other Galacticos such as Kaka and Karim Benzema.
Even David Beckham didn't get a personal bodyguard from Madrid, though sponsors provided a security team for him when not on official club duty.
About 80,000 fans welcomed Ronaldo to the Bernabeu on Monday and dozens tried to get on to the pitch and closer to their 24-year-old idol.
A Madrid source told Spanish newspaper El Pais: 'It is impossible tocontrol all this without an escort. Especially after seeing whathappened on Monday. He will need it, this is not Manchester.'
Madrid'shead of security Julio Cendal has already visited Dublin and the smalltown of Leixlip in County Kildare, where the team will hold privatetraining sessions from next Monday.
