Puyol - United are favourites

Carles Puyol hopes Barcelona can turn a very good season into a spectacular one when they face Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League final. Barca have already claimed the Primera Liga title and the Copa del Rey trophy this term and are looking to make history by becoming European champions as well. However, skipper Puyol admits it will be difficult to triumph in Wednesday's Stadio Olimpico showpiece against 'the best team in the world'. Puyol rates defending champions United as favourites because they are so strong in every department but he insists Barca are capable of winning. "We've enjoyed a very good season," he said. "The team has worked very hard and the results we have obtained are proof of that. "We hope to win and make this season a spectacular one. "It's going to be a very complicated game. We are facing the best team in the world. "Manchester United are very strong defensively and have players that can make the difference at any moment. "We know their players very well. But I wouldn't focus on just the attack but on the whole team." Barca go into the match without injured central defenders Rafael Marquez and Gabriel Milito and suspended full-backs Eric Abidal and Dani Alves. Puyol is nevertheless confident, saying: "We do have important players missing, but the team arrives to this game in good form. "We have great players and everything will be perfect. "We have good vibes and we know we have an historic opportunity against a great team. "We are optimistic."
