Pumped-up Ferdinand: I admit I'll be losing it when we win

Of all the mental images that map out another remarkable Manchester United season, one in particular remains. Rio Ferdinand, arms outstretched, veins popping, eyes bulging... screaming from the directors' box towards the press seats seconds after Federico Macheda curled his winning goal into the Aston Villa net at Old Trafford last month. It was a picture of a man out of control, lost to the moment. Perhaps it does much to counter the argument that £100,000-a-week footballers do not care. Ferdinand, after all, wasn't even playing that day. 'Yeah, that was a bit mad,' he said, smiling. 'But that's just what I'm like. As long as my team are winning I couldn't care less what I am doing or what people think. I'm a bad watcher, a bad loser, the lot. I'm getting worse because the stakes are so high.
