Phillip Cocu hopes Manchester United fans forgive Hector Moreno

PSV Eindhoven coach Phillip Cocu hopes Hector Moreno will not be booed by Manchester United fans because he committed the tackle that broke Luke Shaw's leg.

United and PSV meet in the Champions League for the second time this season at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

In the reverse fixture, Shaw broke his leg in two places following a tackle by PSV defender Moreno.

The Mexican apologised for the tackle - which went unpunished - but that may not save him from abuse when he steps out on to the pitch in Manchester on Wednesday.

Cocu does not want that to be the case, however.

"I hope not," the PSV boss said when asked if he thought Moreno would be booed.

"It was a very bad injury. Hopefully Luke Shaw will get back soon.

"He is a fantastic player. The most important thing will be that he is back on his feet shortly, joining the team and playing for Manchester United, but we don't know what will happen tomorrow in the game."

PSV have certainly done everything to show their support to Shaw since the defender's right leg was bent at a 45 degree angle in Eindhoven.

Cocu and his squad visited the England international during his three-day stay in an Eindhoven hospital and the club's fan club has also done its bit too.

They have brought two surfer flags with Shaw's face on it alongside the words "Get well soon Luke Shaw" to England.

One will be carried aloft by the away fans during Wednesday's game and the other has been delivered to the player.

Moreno is expected to be in the starting line-up for the meeting between Group B's top two teams.

PSV, who are one point below leaders United, are underdogs, but they have drawn confidence from their 2-1 win over the three-time European champions at the Philips Stadion in September.

"The fact that we won at home of course gives us confidence of a good result," said Cocu, who played under Van Gaal for Barcelona and Holland.

"You have to believe in something to achieve it, or there is no point playing the game.

"We are playing in a fantastic stadium, but it gives us confidence that we won on our home ground and we will try to do it again on Wednesday."
