Petr Cech favourite to join United if De Gea decides to go

After losing his number one status to 23-year-old Thibaut Courtois, Petr Cech finds himself much in demand elsewhere after being given permission to talk to other clubs.

Mourinho feels that Cech ‘is one of my best players’ and has made 330 Premier League appearances for Chelsea but the 32-year-old Czech international wants to play more first-team football and will only be able to do so elsewhere. Cech joined Chelsea in 2004 and has no shortage of suitors with Inter Milan, Arsenal, Liverpool and now United interested in luring the hugely experienced keeper who tops the clean-sheet tables with the few appearances he has made.

With United a lot depends on what happens with David de Gea who has reportedly not made a final decision on his future with a report in the Star revealing the player intends to hold a family meeting at the end of the season to decide his next move. Manchester United have been warned that Real Madrid intend to play a hard-line in terms of any fee with just 12 months remaining on his contract which suggests United will be lucky to get their money back on their £18million paid in 2011.

Louis van Gaal was philosophical when asked about De Gea saying:

‘He has the chance to go to another great club,’ he told Sky.

‘He is Spanish. His girlfriend is Spanish.

‘But he shall not leave easily, because we have a great club.’

Many have read the last statement as a warning to Real that United can also be difficult when it comes to any negotiation and that they will not be held to ransom on the sale.

De Gea has had a great season for United but it’s looking increasingly unlikely that the player will be at United next season.
