Pep Guardiola is looking forward to pitting his wits against Sir Alex Ferguson in the UEFA Champions League final. The Barcelona boss has enjoyed incredible success in his first season at the helm, already steering the club to a domestic double. European success would complete a historic treble, something Barca have never achieved before, and Guardiola has joked that he may decide to retire. "If we win, I'll go home and finish my career, it will have been a big, big success," he said. Guardiola is relishing the prospect of squaring up to Ferguson when Barcelona meet Manchester United in Rome next Wednesday. Amazing Ferguson has been in charge at Old Trafford for nearly 23 years and Guardiola is in awe of what he has accomplished. "I have a lot of respect for him, I'm so proud for us to be here and come up against his team," he commented. "His career is amazing - he has won trophies and had to build a new team, and then won again and again. "I will try to learn from him - it's a proud moment for me to be there playing against him and a huge team like Manchester United." Barcelona went out to United at the semi-final stage of the Champions League last season and Guardiola has studied footage of the goalless draw at Camp Nou and the return leg at Old Trafford which ended 1-0 in the English side's favour. "Those were the first two games we looked at, to have an idea of how they went," he said. "But we have looked at others, including the semi-final against Arsenal."
