Paul Scholes offered Stoke playercoach role

The Daily Mail claims Stoke manager Tony Pulis will give Scholes the opportunity to extend his playing career while also taking his first steps into management. Scholes has recently indicated he would like to remain in the game when he retires from playing, but he still wants one more season at the top level. The midfielder has played for United all his life and would be reluctant to leave the area, but Pulis believes Stoke is close enough for Scholes to commute. Speaking about his current situation at Old Trafford, Scholes said: "Not playing every week is an adjustment you don't like making. You train all week, and you want to play games. "I think there comes a time when you have to accept you won't play every week, especially with the quality of midfielders we have. "We will have to see how I am next season, but if I feel I can go again, I will. I would have thought next season will be my last one, though. After that, I would not rule out management. "Let's see how the coaching goes first, but I would like to be a manager one day. I think I could put up with the demands it brings." If Pulis' approach succeeds, it would be interesting to see what impact Scholes has on Stoke's playing style. A wonderful passer of the ball with immaculate control, Scholes' technical abilities would stand out in a Stoke side who have largely relied on bulk and brawn to remain in the Premier League this season.
