Pallister sees 'more years' for Ferguson

Former Manchester United player Gary Pallister predicted Friday that Sir Alex Ferguson still has "a few more years" with the English Premier League club.

Ferguson celebrated his 25th anniversary as manager of United earlier this month, which Pallister described as "a wonderful achievement."

"To do 25 years in any club is fantastic, and to do it at a club the size of Manchester United is quite incredible," the former defender told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

"He is in great spirits and still hungry for a challenge... that desired hunger is still there over all these years and I think he still has a few more years in him," he said of Ferguson, 69.

Pallister, who played for United from 1989 to 1998, was also upbeat on United's chances of winning the league title despite their recent humiliating defeat by Manchester City.

"A 6-1 defeat at home is bad; to have it done by your nearest rivals is a bit of a travesty," he said, but added that the defeat "may spur them on to a 20th title."

"I have played in teams that got beat 5-0 and 6-3 in consecutive weeks and we (still) went on to win the title so we have the experience of dealing with situations like that, and I don't see it being any different with this team," he said.

United currently rank second in the English Premier League table, five points behind Manchester City.
