Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that the club will not be making any new signings when the transfer window opens in January.

In the summer, Fergie brought Robin van Persie, Shinji Kagawa, Nick Powell and Alexander Buttner to the club in preparation for the new season and with the New Year almost upon us, United sit at the top f the table, six points clear of second placed Man City.

Title rivals City and Chelsea both say that they will be interested in strengthening before the end of January, but when asked if he was going to boost his side, Fergie said "No.

"The January transfer market has never been the best market and that has proved itself over the years.

"You get very few big transfers - all the big transfers are done in the summer."
