Neville: Liverpool wait to go on

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville doubts whether Liverpool will finally be able to end their long wait for the title this season.[LNB] Not since 1990 have the Anfield club tasted league glory and back in May they had to watch bitter rivals United surpass their record of 18 championships.[LNB]Kenny Dalglish has spent heavily on the likes of Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson since returning as Liverpool boss in January in an effort to ensure they are at least mounting a serious challenge for honours once again.[LNB]Neville, who won eight titles during his 20 years at Old Trafford, has praised the Scotsman's impact at Liverpool but feels more patience will be needed.[LNB]The latest pundit to join Sky Sports was quoted in the Sun as saying: "Liverpool are getting to that point where they need that success now. The club demands it.[LNB]"Going back to 1992-3 you just become very desperate and very wanting. You become needy.[LNB]"You feel like it's a goal, it's a challenge, rather than something to get excited about.[LNB]"You can see exactly what Kenny Dalglish is trying to do there. He has brought an identity back to the club.[LNB]"Whether they can go on and win the title... I'm not sure whether that will happen this season."[LNB]The former England international also believes Chelsea will be United's main title rival but thinks Manchester City can also push them close.[LNB]He said: "The reality is that the first and second best teams in the country for the last five years have been United and Chelsea.[LNB]"City will challenge, there's no doubt about that. But I look at Chelsea and think of them as being the main challengers for five years now.[LNB]"And I see no reason why that should change as a lot of the same players are there. For me, I see Liverpool as just ahead of Tottenham."
