Neville - It was tough

Gary Neville admits he found it tough going on Sunday as he started his first league match since January against Aston Villa. Neville began the match with Villa at centre-half, but he struggled against John Carew and was swapped with John O'Shea so he could take up his more customary right-back role. The England man improved hugely at full-back and he was pleased to get through 90 minutes. "Villa did really well throughout the game and made things difficult for us," Neville said. "I struggled physically in the first half having not played for a couple of months and I found it really tough. "But I got a lot better as the game went on." United produced a remarkable comeback at Old Trafford as they claimed a 3-2 win, with youngster Federico Macheda firing home an injury-time winner. "It was really important for us to get back to winning ways after losing the last two matches," he said. "We needed the young lads. I thought both Danny Welbeck and Kiko [Federico Macheda] handled things really well, especially Kiko. "The way he held the ball up when he came on was brilliant and it was a very mature performance from the lad. "He's made a massive improvement in the last couple of months. He's very strong and he's got an ice-cool head in front of goal. For a young player to have that is very rare. It's an unbelievable moment for him and we're all very grateful to him. "Who knows how important that goal will be? It's certainly given us a massive lift."
