Neville backs Young signing
Gary Neville is sure Sir Alex Ferguson can keep Ashley Young happy at Manchester United despite the competition for places at Old Trafford.[LNB] United's acquisition of Young from Aston Villa last month led to questions over the future of Nani but Neville is confident there are enough games to go around.[LNB]Asked if he was surprised by the capture of Young, Neville said: "Not really, because you look at last year when Antonio Valencia got injured.[LNB]"He was out for about six months and then, particularly when Park Ji-sung went away to play in the Asian Cup, we really were at times short on the ground in those positions.[LNB]"Ashley Young is someone who can play left and right and off the front - so can Nani and so can Park.[LNB]"There are plenty enough positions and games for them to share around."[LNB]Neville - who retired in February - knows from his past battles on the field with Young what the 26-year-old England midfielder offers and is backing him to get even better as a United player.[LNB]"He can give you a very tough time, particularly because he can go both ways," Neville said.[LNB]"He is very flexible in the way he plays and I think that now, with the expectation level at this club and the top players he will be playing around in the Champions League, it will take him to that next level in his development as a football player."[LNB]Young is set to make his first appearance for United tomorrow when Ferguson's side take on New England Revolution in the opening match of their tour of the United States, and Neville feels overseas pre-season trips are ideal for getting new signings settled.[LNB]"It is perfect for bedding in new players - to get them used to all the squad, travel with them, go out for a meal together," Neville said.[LNB]"It is something that has been brilliant in doing that for the last 15 years.[LNB]"Ashley Young in some ways will have been nervous this last week or so coming into the changing room, but coming out the back of the tour, he will be fully comfortable with the team.[LNB]"It is a great squad anyway for that; they always look after new players and make you one of their own."
