Nemanja Vidic out: Claudio Marchisio in at Manchester United?

You can’t keep Manchester United out of the news, for whatever reason, and with the transfer merry-go-round now in full swing there’s no shortage of transfer speculation surrounding the reigning but suffering Premier League champions.

The Daily Mirror reports that Nemanja Vidic could be set for a shock move to Barcelona whilst the same paper suggests United could make a £20m swoop for Claudio Marchisio from Juventus.

Still with United and the Daily Mail is predicting a mass clear-out at Old Trafford, claiming Rio Ferdinand, as well as Vidic and Patrice Evra could all leave the club between now and the end of the season. The futures of Javier Hernandez, Nani, Anderson, Alex Buttner and Anders Lindegaard are also said to be uncertain.

Manager David Moyes has expressed an urgent need to revamp his squad after hitting the buffers this season, and Diego Costa and Ander Herrera are said to be on his most-wanted list.

United, together with Chelsea and Manchester City, were believed to be interested in bringing Xabi Alonso back to the Premier League but any such move has been blown out of the water as the former Liverpool midfielder has signed a new contract with Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants are apparently prepared to offer Juan Mata a route out of Stamford Bridge as the Chelsea midfielder remains out of favour with Jose Mourinho who was linked at the weekend with possible moves for Wayne Rooney and Mario Balotelli.

Arsenal’s striking problems would suggest they are in the market for a new forward this transfer window, and Arsene Wenger is said to be interested in £15m-rated Alvaro Morato – although they could face competition from Liverpool.

The Gunners have also been linked with Anderlecht’s Cheikhou Kouyate, and it will be interesting to see what Wenger has got up his sleeve over the next few weeks.
