Nani goal enough for United

Nani's sixth-minute strike was enough to earn Manchester United a precious 1-0 Champions League win over Bursaspor at the end of a traumatic few days at Old Trafford. The impact of Wayne Rooney's damning statement about United's perceived lack of ambition was still sinking in when Nani curled home an excellent effort from 25 yards. And although they could not find a second in a largely drab encounter, it was enough to maintain their progress towards the knockout phase. Any pre-match tension was laid to rest early on when Nani picked up the ball on the right-hand side and drifted in field before placing a shot beyond the reach of Dimitar Ivankov. Michael Carrick shot over later in a largely uneventful first half and Patrice Evra brought a save out of Ivankov after the break as the pace remained mundane. Late on, Gabriel Obertan's header kissed the outside of Ivankov's near post as the Frenchman rose to meet Nani's corner, then Javier Hernandez failed to find the net with a 20-yard effort.
