Nani confident of progress

Manchester United winger Nani is confident that the Red Devils can knock his boyhood heroes Porto out of the UEFA Champions League. United travel to the Estadio do Dragao, with the scores level at 2-2 from the first leg, in the knowledge that no English side has ever triumphed there. Porto shook Old Trafford when they deservedly came away with two away goals last week but the 22-year-old insists the holders have what it takes to win in Portugal. The former Sporting Lisbon ace grew up supporting the Portuguese champions but that will not stop him from doing everything possible to end their European campaign on Wednesday. "Why am I confident? Simple, because we have the best players in the world," he told The Sun. "We have the confidence wherever we go. OK, we know Porto are a very good team, play good football and showed their own strengths at Old Trafford but it may be more difficult for them now. "When you're at home you have to go forward more, and that could leave them under pressure. We are going there to win and we're confident we can do it." After a debut season which culminated in Premier League and Champions League success, this term has been somewhat more subdued for the Portugal international. Nani has more starts in this season's competition than he has in the league this term and it is for this reason why he already has a keen eye on next year. "At the end of last season I thought the next one was going to be my year," he admitted. "Maybe it's not gone how I would like, but I had injuries at the start and everything changed. "You just have to be ready when you get the chance - I only hope next season will see me play more games. "But if this season finishes at Rome and Wembley, plus another league title, it would be fantastic."
