Florentino Perez today hinted he would rubber-stamp a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo after finally confirming he wants to be Real Madrid's next president. Would-be president: Florentino Perez sets out his vision at the Ritz in Madrid The 62-year-old has been plotting his candidacy to lead the Spanish giants since Ramon Calderon was forced to resign in January. Perez, who was president from 2000-2006, has been assembling a list of dream transfer targets in a bid to put Madrid back at the top of world football's elite. But his biggest decision is whether to ratify what is understood to be an already-agreed deal to sign Ronaldo from Manchester United for about £75million. The move could be scuppered if either side breaks a confidentiality agreement or if Madrid's new president vetoes it when taking office in mid-June. Perez is the overwhelming favourite to win summer elections now he has declared his hand, but had been considering whether to move for Ronaldo or take what is expected to be a cheaper option of signing Kaka from AC Milan.
