Moyes: Penalty put Jags in pickle

David Moyes says Phil Jagielka "wasn't keen" on being involved in the shoot-out in Everton's FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester United.Jagielka scored the decisive penalty at Wembley on Sunday to give Everton a 4-2 shoot-out win and put them through to their first final since they won the cup in 1995.Toffees boss Moyes said: "I don't think Phil was entirely keen on taking one, but he had scored in training this week and that stuck in my mind."I asked who wanted one and there were a few heads nodding. I looked at him and said, 'You all right for one Jags?' I think if he'd got his way he might not have taken one, but I didn't have too many takers on the day."Moyes praised both Jagielka and James Vaughan - who recently returned from a long spell out injured - for their fortitude."James Vaughan went up and he's not played for four months, and Jags missed his last one against Fiorentina," added Moyes."There weren't many to pick from to be honest and then when Tim [Cahill] missed the first against United, who are probably the world's best at shoot-outs because they have done it so many times and won the European Cup on one, you fear the worst. But good on our goalkeeper, he made two excellent saves."It took great courage for James to go up - and Jags after what happened to him in the UEFA Cup last year. Jags has grown as a player and to take that pen shows how much he has come on in recent years."Jagielka confirmed to Everton's official website that he "wasn't sure" about taking a kick after missing against Fiorentina."It was fantastic that the boys before me and T-How (Howard) put me into that position and thankfully this time it worked to our advantage," said Jagielka."I wasn't too sure about taking a penalty after last time but there weren't too many specialists left on the pitch so I said I would go last. Thankfully it was the glory goal.""It's about time Tim started saving some penalties!" joked Jagielka. "He's been getting close in the last few years but he was fantastic and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy."I think they had a few experienced lads in their squad who have taken penalties before, but thankfully we got the luck."[LNB]
