Modric plays down Man United links, insisting he wants to extend Spurs stay
Luka Modric has dismissed reports linking him with £10m move to Manchester United with the Croatia midfielder insisting he instead expects to sign a new contract for Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp last week revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson is a massive admirer of the playmaker's talents and stories have since suggested that Modric will head to Old Trafford with United's Michael Carrick heading back to White Hart Lane.
But Modric insists he is only thinking about extending his time in north London, rejecting the notion that he could be the latest Tottenham star to defect to the Barclays Premier League champions.
'I don't know anything about the Manchester United link,' Modric told Croatian daily Sportske Novosti.
'I read about it in the newspapers, and one paper even published quotes from me saying I was happy to be on Sir Alex Ferguson's radar.
'But the truth is that I didn't say anything to anybody about this. They were not my words.
'I feel great at Tottenham and I have given no thought to moving to a different club. My contract runs until 2013 and I am just thinking about staying.
'I wouldn't be surprised if Tottenham offer me a new contract as that is something which happens in England. But, even if that doesn't happen, my feelings will not change.
'I am happy at White Hart Lane and I will continue to give my all for Tottenham, as I always have.'
Modric could be rested for Wednesday's Carling Cup visit to Championship club Doncaster having lead Spurs to the top of the Premier League after three games.
