Messi - Final not personal

Lionel Messi insists that the UEFA Champions League final is much more than a personal battle with Cristiano Ronaldo. Barcelona go head-to-head with Manchester United in Rome on 27th May, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1, with their respective attacks spearheaded by two of the best players on the planet. The Red Devils ace pipped Argentina playmaker Messi to the Fifa World Player of the Year award, but the Barca ace insists he is more interested in seeing his team lift the Champions League trophy. He said: "Nobody plays to be the best player in the world. This is a team game. I don't see it as a tussle between Cristiano and me. It will be a Barca-Manchester battle. "What is important is that Barcelona are champions of Europe on 27th May in Rome. "If we are champions it will certainly help me, but this is secondary." Barca already have two trophies in the cabinet this season after being crowned La Liga champions and lifting the Copa del Rey. Coach Pep Guardiola is keeping his star men out of the firing line before the final, and Messi has admitted that he will be itching to get back into action when he takes to the field against United. He added: "I don't know how I'm going to spend all those days without being able to play - it seems ages just thinking about it. "But I will come back with batteries fully charged and I will be at the top of my game in Rome. "We're giving it everything we've got. The team is focused. "I want the Treble. We will be the best Barcelona of all time and we're 90 minutes away from doing that. "It's an opportunity to write ourselves in the history books."
