Louis van Gaal looks set to play his final card in luring the highly-rated German centre-back to Manchester United for the new season. Van Gaal who is currently enjoying international success with a narrow victory to send the Dutch into a quarter-final clash with Costa Rica.

The bid is reported to be £20million according to the Metro which will be fine-tuned for submission at the end of the week. The German international is set to prepare for a quarter-final clash with France and may find himself relocating to England after the World Cup.

The 24-year-old is thought to be highly prized by Borussia Dortmund and that the German club want to hold onto one of the players that has played a key role in their rise not only in Germany but in Europe.

It could be that United’s final offer is also rejected and they decide to spend their money elsewhere on Stefan de Vrij and Thomas Vermaelen. £20million does sound like exceptionally good value especially with Evra also now rumoured to be on his way out of Old Trafford.

Manchester United have already been active on the transfer market and have agreed deals for Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw and with a move for Arsenal capatain Thomas Vermaelen at an advanced stage.
