Marcos Rojo - How the new Manchester United man will fit in the 'System'

Marcos Rojo is set for a Manchester United move subject to medical and personal terms. The deal which will see Manchester United winger ‘Nani’ travel to the other side of the swap deal is supposed to happen for £16 million.

Sporting Lisbon has confirmed it via their official twitter account which says :- “#mufc has reached agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign defender Marcos Rojo, subject to a medical and personal terms. A further announcement will be made when the process is complete”

Rojo, the Argentine defender, recently got into the limelight when he secured a place in the World XI team of FIFA World cup 2014. Rojo played in six games for Argentina in FIFA World cup 2014. He played full 120 minutes in the final vs. Germany as left back in Alejandro Sabella’s system. The Argentine has played the role of a centre back for last season at Sporting Lisbon and had earned a permanent starting lineup spot.

One of the things for which he is knows for the speed at which the young boy can run. During Argentina’s first match against Bosnia, he clocked a top speed of 31.79 kilometers per hour, marking him out as one of the fastest players at the tournament. Aggression is the other thing for which he is known. This aggression can be a cause of little concern for Manchester United as Rojo has received 20 yellow cards and 4 Red cards in last two seasons alone at Sporting.

Here’s how and where Marcos Rojo can play in Louis Van Gaal’s Plan:-

Left Back: - United paid a hefty amount to sign 18 year old Luke Shaw to provide a backup to Patrice Evra. With both Evra and Buttner having left to their respective destinations, Rojo can be an option to play as a back up to Shaw whenever he is injured. He can provide competition to Luke Shaw for that left back role.

Left Wing Back: - Louis Van Gaal might not use the 3-4-1-2 formation he used in the pre-season friendly matches after he failed with that system in premier league opener against Swansea, but ever he wish to use it again, Rojo can show his defending skills and the perfect pace he possesses standing as a left wing back. Van Gaal having used Ashley Young in the left wing back role mostly during the pre-season can get a player in the pool who can attack forward with his pace in the wings and can throw strong tackles on the opposition along with it.

Central Defender: - Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand have ruled the spot of central defenders for almost a decade for Manchester United. With both Vidic and Ferdinand having left for Inter Milan and QPR respectively, United lacks options at this place. The pace and aggression of Rojo can be used best as a left sided central defender.

Rojo will have to improve in Manchester United in some areas, but given his age and his natural talent he seems to be a perfect fit for Manchester United.
