Mancini: Rooney will stay put

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini believes Wayne Rooney will see out the remaining year of his contract at Old Trafford despite City being linked with a move for the unsettled England striker. Rooney has cast doubt on his future at Manchester United after telling the club he will not sign a new deal, prompting speculation he could leave as early as January as the club cash in on him before his current deal runs out. But Mancini, manager of one of the few clubs who could afford the combination of transfer fee and wages Rooney would command, sees it differently. "Rooney plays for United and has another year on his contract," he said. "Every time, when I was in Italy, and there was a problem between the best player on the team and the manager, the coach or the owner, in a month the situation changed and he signed a new contract."
