Manchester United wary of Arsenal threat says Sir Alex Ferguson

United's 2-1 victory at Wigan on Wednesday, when second-half goals from Carlos Tevez and Michael Carrick overturned Hugo Rodallega's first-half opener for the home side, moved the champions to within touching distance of the title. The Premier League trophy will be presented to United following Saturday's clash against the Gunners if they claim the required point. United have twice beaten Arsenal in the last three weeks having eliminated the Londoners with a 4-1 aggregate Champions League semi-final victory. But Ferguson insists that Wenger's team are still capable of spoiling the party by upsetting United at Old Trafford. He said: "They are a very good Arsenal side and I don't listen to any of the criticism that they have been getting recently. "We know how good a side they are and we need to perform on Saturday. Hopefully we will do. "We will approach the game as we always approach it - we will try to win it." But for Carrick's stunning 86th minute strike at the JJB Stadium, United would still be left requiring three points from their final two games to win the league. And the England midfielder admits that the victory against Steve Bruce's men could prove crucial. Carrick said: "It was a massive three points for us at Wigan and obviously it now looks good for us. "I think it's only been done by the club once before, winning the title at home, so it would be great if we can do it again on Saturday. "But we're not getting carried away, we've got to respect Arsenal for how good they are. We know we've still got a job to do." Rio Ferdinand missed the victory at Wigan with the calf strain that ruled him out of the weekend win at Manchester City and the defender remains a doubt for the Arsenal clash. With the Champions League final against Barcelona in Rome on May 27, Ferguson may now rest the England international in a bid to avoid further injury scares for the player, who has also been troubled by back and groin injuries in recent weeks. Ferguson said: "The Arsenal game may come a bit soon for Rio, so it might be a case of seeing how he is before we go to Hull on the final day."
