Follow Sportsmail's coverage of the Champions League as Manchester United look to book a quarter-final place when they host Marseille at Old Trafford. After failing to score away from home in the first leg, the Red Devils will likely need to win on the night to eliminate Didier Deschamps' side. Email me your thoughts on the action at dan.ripley@dailymail.co.uk[LNB] Manchester United 2-1 Marseille (7.45pm)Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea (Rafael da Silva 37) (Fabio da Silva 70), Smalling, Brown, Evra, Nani (Valencia 62), Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Hernandez, Rooney.Subs: Kuszczak,Berbatov, Obertan, Gibson.[LNB]Goals: Hernandez 5, 76.[LNB]Marseille: Mandanda, Fanni, Heinze, Diawara, Taiwo, M'bia Etoundi (Jordan Ayew 80), Cheyrou, Remy, Gonzalez, Andre Ayew, Gignac (Valbuena 69).Subs: Andrade, Hilton, Cisse, Kabore, Abriel.[LNB]Goals: Brown (OG) 82.[LNB]Referee: Carlos Velasco Carballo (Madrid)[LNB]21.50: And that's it for the evening folks but check back again tomorrow for more live coverage from Sportsmail.[LNB]Chelsea will hope to get the job done against Copenhagen in their last 16 clash which will see them join Manchester United and Tottenham in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Thank you for following and good night.[LNB]21.47: Some worrying news emerging this evening is Barcelona's Eric Abidal is due to undergo surgery on Friday after a tumour was found in his liver.[LNB]Let's hope it all goes well and he makes a speedy recovery.[LNB]21.44: But that is another quarter-final booked for Manchester United who join Tottenham from the Premier League in advancing to the last eight.[LNB]The other teams at this stage include Shakhtar Donetsk, Barcelona, Schalke and Inter.[LNB]21.41: Nervy moments after that Brown own goal and it just proved how crucial grabbing that second goal for United was.[LNB]One goal was possible for Marseille but to grab two at the Theatre of Dreams was always going to be a tough task.[LNB]21.38: And it's full-time in Munich too , where Inter Milan have eliminated Bayern Munich on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw.[LNB]Full-time: Manchester United 2-1 Marseille (Manchester United win 2-1 on aggregate)[LNB]90+3min: Desperate from Remy who is booked for a blatant shirt pull, The visitors are running out of ideas.[LNB]90+1min DRAMA IN MUNICH! Goran Pandev has scored with just a minute remaining for Inter and the Italian side now look likely to progress on away goals. It's 3-3 on aggregate and 3-2 on the night to the holders.[LNB]90min: Into injury time and Marseille are suddenly piling on the pressure![LNB]88min: United have found their feet again and it's just a case of keeping the ball for the final few minutes.[LNB]85min: Some very anxious faces at Old Trafford, Marseille are really going for this. In truth they are in no stronger position than they have been all game but nerves are definitely creeping in to the home side and their fans.[LNB]82min: GOAL! Manchester United 2-1 MARSEILLE[LNB]Drama and panic after an own goal at Old Trafford! Marseille have looked dangerous from set-pieces and that is where they strike, after Heinze's header from a corner deflects off Wes Brown and over the line despite Paul Scholes' best efforts to volley it out.[LNB]80min: Stephane Mbia has the holding midfielder is off with Jordan Ayew on in his place.[LNB]Some gaps appearing at the back for Marseille with Hernandez's low cut back only cleared for a corner at the last moment by Heinze.[LNB]79min: Deschamps considering throwing the kitchen sink at this as he gets his subs ready, meanwhile his XI on the pitch are still going for it. Rod Fanni firing a shot at Van der Sar's near post that forces an honest save from the Dutchman.[LNB] Double up: Hernandez converts his second goal of the game[LNB]76min: GOAL! MANCHESTER UNITED 2-0 Marseille[LNB]Superb from Valencia, his clever disguised pass enables Ryan Giggs to get past the back line on the right before his low cross into the box is tapped home by Javier Hernandez. Huge sigh of relief around Old Trafford.[LNB]75min: Important stop from Van der Sar, Remy's cut-back after a burst down the right is hit first-time by Cheyrou in the box, but the Dutchman dives down low to his right to not only stop the ball but hold on to it.[LNB]72min: Valbuena makes an instant impact...by getting booked. He charges into Brown in a similar fashion to how Hernandez got his yellow card, and the centre-back looked far from happy judging by his angry reaction.[LNB]70min: Fabio does indeed replace his injured brother who is carried off on a stretcher. What awful luck for United.[LNB]69min: Marseille make a sub first with the dangerous Valbuena replacing him.[LNB]67min: Unbelievable, Having come on to replace the injured O'Shea, Rafael himself also appears to be struggling with a hamstring problem. Fabio warming up.[LNB]65min: Things have got interesting in Munich. Wesley Sneijder has hit a lovely first-time strike from 23 yards that is postage stamp perfect into the bottom corner to equalise for Inter[LNB]It's 2-2 on the night, 3-2 to Bayern on aggregate but Inter need just one more goal to progress.[LNB]63min: What is Wes Brown doing?! His attempt to clear a cross nearly ends in disaster as his complete mis-kick sees it fly straight past him and out for a corner.[LNB]Had he made thicker contact that could have gone straight past a helpless Van der Sar.[LNB]From the corner Heinze headers wide but was put under enough pressure to prevent him getting decent contact.[LNB]62min: Big reception for Valencia who is brought on to replace Nani.[LNB]59min: Not much goalmouth action but it's end-to-end stuff and entertaining to watch.[LNB]56min: Rooney and Hernandez is really starting to click. Only the offside flag denies the Mexican from converting Rooney's through ball while seconds later he is just beaten to another by Steve Mandanda who rushes off his line to claim.[LNB]54min: This almost feels like a Premier League match, it's a fast paced game and it seems the visitors are happy to play-a-long to it. In theory United should be slowing this down especially as Marseille look good on the break.[LNB]51min: Marseille doing all the pressing but as yet have not forced Van der Sar to make a save, they are winning all the loose balls though and United's midfield is a bit out of shape.[LNB]49min: Brave keeping from Van der Sar as he dives at Gignac's legs to steal the ball before receiving an inevitable kick from the striker.[LNB]Unavoidable and the Dutch keeper clearly felt the pain after grabbing his head after.[LNB] Taken for a ride: Loic Remy (top) collides with Patrice Evra[LNB]48min: An open start and to be fair to Marseille, they are not playing anything like as deep as I thought they would.[LNB]Second-half: United get us going again.[LNB]20.45: Time for a reminder of the scenarios. If Marseille draw this game they will progress on away goals. United simply have to win from this point in 90 minutes, there will be no extra-time.[LNB]20.42: Our friends from InfostradaLive are bang on form this evening:[LNB]Ferguson can win his 100th CC/CL match with Man Utd. First win was in 1993 at Honv?d (HUN, 3-2). Ryan Giggs played in this match. [LNB]20.38: United have looked good but Marseille have provided one or two scary moments and I think United are going to have to go for a second here.[LNB]Either way there seems to be more goals in this one.[LNB]20.32: Half-time at the Allianz Arena where Bayern Munich have been MUCH the better side and lead 2-1 (3-1 agg).[LNB]Some of Inter's defending has been absolutely comical, hard to believe it's virtually the same side that kept Barcelona quiet in last season's semi-final.[LNB]Half-time: Manchester United 1-0 Marseille[LNB]45min: One minute added on.[LNB]Feeling the strain: John O'Shea had to go off with a hamstring injury for Manchester United[LNB]43min: Very close again from Marseille, Smalling fails to clear a cross properly and first time, Loic Remy smashes a volley from 20 yards just over the bar. Good try.[LNB]41min: Huge penalty shout at Old Trafford. Hernandez goes down after a collision with Taye Taiwo when it seemed he had a simple tap-in to convert. But replays show the Mexican clearly runs into the centre-back and dare I say it, it looks like the official behind the goal called that one. They have a use after all![LNB]38min: Nice effort from Cheyrou whose 25-yard effort at least forces Van der Sar to parry before picking up the pieces. This game is far from done.[LNB]37min: O'Shea, in for his height to combat a Marseille aerial attack is replaced by Rafael.[LNB]36min: THAT was close! Benoit Cheyrou's corner is met by an unmarked Souleymane Diawara, whose bullet header is just wide of the post. There was no stopping that.[LNB]35min: More injury woe for United. O'Shea has pulled up injured clutching his hamstring after stretching for a sliding challenge and he won't be able to continue.[LNB]34min: Marseille are going to have to do better than this. They win a slightly fortunate free-kick to the left of United's area but Lucho Gonzalez's ball in is neither a cross or a shot as it sails over everyone and the crossbar. Big waste.[LNB]31min: Carnage for Inter. This time it's an error from Lucio, after the centre-back's interception falls straight into the path of Thomas Muller who does the simple task of clipping the ball past Cesar. It's 3-1 to Bayern on aggregate.[LNB]29min: Little sighter from Nani, he runs across the pitch 23 yards out before firing a left foot shot wide. He has hit better but he was invited to have a go there.[LNB] In the thick of it: Marseille's Heinze (left) tackles Manchester United's Nani[LNB]27min: Large promising signs from United. Rooney, Nani and Hernandez are linking up superbly and if they carry on like this I can see United getting that second goal. The visitors really struggling to pick them all up.[LNB]24min: United close to getting a second, Some more neat passing play ends up in the Marseille box but Rooney's cut back is lost in translation and the visitors clear before Nani can get to the loose ball.[LNB]21min: Horrible from Julio Cesar! He fumbles Arjen Robben's 20-yard effort straight into the path of Mario Gomez who calmly volleys it over the keeper's head. Shocking from the Brazilian and Bayern regain the advantage leading 2-1 on aggregate.[LNB]19min: First booking for Hernandez after a forceful barge on Heinze. Welcome back Gab.[LNB]18min: Good opening from United and crucially the key players are firing. Giggs' passes have been perfect and Rooney is causing all sorts of problems. Marseille just can't keep up with the tempo.[LNB]15min: Patrice Evra is a lucky boy there. He is slightly late with a tackle on Lucho Gonzalez's ankle but escapes any sort of booking. I have seen those given especially in Europe.[LNB]12min: First test from the set-pieces for United and it's not the most convincing of goalkeeping from Edwin van der Sar who takes two attempts to gather up the long ball into the box.[LNB]9min: What a chance for Marseille! This is their first attack after Andre Ayew picks out Andre-Pierre Gignac who hits a hopeless attempted lob miles over from inside the box. A wake up call for United.[LNB]7min: A goal in Munich too where Samuel Eto'o by the slimmest of margins beats the offside trap before slotting through the legs of Thomas Kraft for Inter. Extra-time if it stays like that.[LNB] Little Pea in little time: Javier Hernandez scored from close range to give United an early lead[LNB]5min: GOAL! MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 Marseille[LNB]That will ease some nerves! United much the better team early on, and after some build up play on the left, Rooney takes the ball inside the box before picking out Javier Hernandez at the back post with a low pass. The Mexican really cannot miss. Appeals for offside from the visitors but the Hernandez was well on.[LNB]4min: Ryan Giggs continues to amaze me. He arrows a perfect cross-field ball for Hernandez who links well with Rooney, before the Englishman threads through Nani which is only just cut out.[LNB]2min: United going for it early on, hounding down Marseille every time they get the ball. They can't afford to let the French side settle.[LNB]Kick-off: Marseille in their change strip of black get us going.[LNB]19.45: A minute's silence for the victims of the tragic natural disaster in Japan in both matches.[LNB]19.43: Players are out , the music is played and we are set for another European night of football at Old Trafford.[LNB]19.40: Marseille and Newcastle fans should hang out more. Plenty of barmy bare chested supporters in the away end, it's not the south of France here lads.[LNB]19.37: Time for a quick reminder that although we will be focusing on United this evening, i will bring updates from the Munich/Milan match.[LNB]19.34: More juicy stats from InfoStradaLive:[LNB]Man Utd have not conceded a single goal in the five CL matches with Chris Smalling in the starting XI.[LNB]19.31: I am still puzzled about the exclusion of Berbatov.[LNB]Javier Hernandez and Rooney are working well but the Bulgarian is United's top scorer this season.[LNB]I never had him down as an impact sub to be fair which is what United may need.[LNB]19.28: Sir Alex pre-match:[LNB]We tried our best to get Vidic fit but we couldn't risk an injury like a calf one which could keep him out for a further three or four weeks.[LNB]Nani's recovery has been amazing and it's good he is back because I would have had to start Antonio Valencia, and in the worst case scenario that this game goes to extra-time you don't want a player who has just recovered from a serious injury playing 120 minutes.[LNB]We will take it to Marseille, but it won't be easy, they are experienced and will be dangerous on the counter attack.[LNB]19.25: ...and crucially in the context of this tie have not lost away from home since the fifth of December.[LNB]19.22: A little overview of Marseille's domestic form.[LNB]They sit fourth in the French league at this time but it's proving to very competitive across the Channel where just four points separate the top four.[LNB]19.19: Experience is a key factor in Fergie's line up then. The selection of John O'Shea over Rafael I think underlines that point.[LNB]19.16: From InfoStradaLive:[LNB]Man Utd 's starting line up is 29 yrs - 317 days old, their 2nd oldest ever in CL after 30 yrs - 010 days vs Bayern (2-1 defeat) in 2010.[LNB]19.13: It's a welcome back (of sorts) to Gabriel Heinze who returns to the Theatre Of Dreams having spent his career at United from 2004-2007.[LNB]I think he could actually be the weak link for the visitors this evening, he always seemed prone to a clumsy challenge.[LNB] Former red: Heinze in his Manchester United days[LNB]19.10: And check out the centre-backs - it's the same pairing that shipped three cheap goals at Anfield recently.[LNB]One positive though is Marseille's danger man Mathieu Valbuena doesn't look like he is fit enough to start. I do struggle to see where else they can score goals.[LNB]19.07: No Vidic is the last news you want to hear when you know you're at the risk of conceding away goals. I don't think there is much question over whether United will dominate this evening but Marseille will be dangerous on the break.[LNB]Just one goal from the French side will mean United will have to score twice to keep their Champions League hopes alive.[LNB]19.04: Nemanja Vidic is forced to miss Manchester United's Champions League last 16 clash with Marseille at Old Trafford after failing to recover from a calf injury.[LNB]The Serbian's place goes to Wes Brown, who starts alongside Chris Smalling as United look for the victory that would take them into the quarter-finals following a goalless draw in France three weeks ago.[LNB]Top scorer Dimitar Berbatov is once again named on the bench, where he finds himself in the opposite dug-out to Marseille danger-man Mathieu Valbuena, who missed the first leg through injury.[LNB]19.01: Not just United in Champions League action this evening. Elsewhere it's a rematch of last season's final between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan where the German side currently have the advantage following a 1-0 win at the San Siro.[LNB]Bayern Munich v Inter MilanBayern Munich: Kraft, Lahm, Van Buyten, Breno, Pranjic, Schweinsteiger, Gustavo, Robben, Muller, Ribery, Gomez. Subs: Butt, Altintop, Ottl, Klose, Badstuber, Kroos, Tymoschuk.Inter Milan: Julio Cesar, Maicon, Ranocchia, Lucio, Chivu, Stankovic, Motta, Cambiasso, Eto'o, Sneijder, Pandev. Subs: Castellazzi, Cordoba, Kharja, Mariga, Materazzi, Coutinho, Nagatomo.Referee: Pedro Proenca (Lisbon)[LNB]18.58: Full team news from both sides:[LNB]Manchester United: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Smalling, Brown, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Rooney, Hernandez.Subs: Kuszczak, Fabio, Rafael, Berbatov, Gibson, Obertan, Valencia.[LNB]Marseille: Mandanda, Fanni, Diawara, Heinze, Taiwo, Mbia, Cheyrou, Gonzalez, Remy, Gignac, A Ayew.Subs: Andrade, Hilton, Cisse, Kabore, J Ayew, Abriel, Valbuena.[LNB]18.55: I have to admit it for the first time in a long time I am a bit concerned about Manchester United's chances tonight. They are of course the favourites and should actually comfortably go through...but how often have we seen those pesky away goals rear their (sometimes) ugly head?[LNB]Let's hope my doubts are not for the first time proved unfounded:[LNB]United starting XI:[LNB]Van der Sar; O'Shea, Smalling, Brown, Evra; Nani, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Rooney; Hernandez[LNB] Red head: Wayne Rooney will hope to build on his recent good form to send Manchester United through[LNB]  Fergie needs firepower: Manchester United must avoid Marseille's away goal ambushUnited striker Hernandez surprised at immediate impact in English footballAll the latest Manchester United news, features and opinion[LNB]  Explore more:People: Nani, Nemanja Vidic, Dimitar Berbatov, Wes Brown, Maicon, Gabriel Heinze, Fabio Da Silva, John O'Shea, Antonio Valencia, Ryan Giggs, Edwin Van Der Sar, Samuel Eto'o, Mario Gomez, Arjen Robben, Patrice Evra, Wesley Sneijder, Paul Scholes Places: Lisbon, Madrid, Munich, Newcastle, Milan, Barcelona, Copenhagen, France, Japan, Europe
