Manchester United v Manchester City - Match preview

27 January 2010 13:53
Manchester City will protect a 2-1 first-leg lead against their illustrious neighbours United at Old Trafford tonight, with manager Roberto Mancini seeking to bring the club their first major trophy since 1981.

A place in the Carling Cup final at Wembley awaits the winners of the tie, with City in the driving seat after former United striker Carlos Tevez scored twice at Eastlands in response to Ryan Giggs's opener for the cup holders.

United will be missing defenders Nemanja Vidic (calf) and John O'Shea (thigh), along with midfielder Owen Hargreaves (knee).

Michael Owen has been widely tipped for a starting berth alongside Wayne Rooney, with United in need of goals.

City absentees include signing Patrick Vieira (calf), and defenders Joleon Lescott, Wayne Bridge and Michael Johnson (all knee).

Robinho is available, despite the Brazilian international negotiating a loan move away from the club.
