Manchester United to prepare for Rooney exit with Edinson Cavani transfer

Reports have surfaced that amid growing fears that Wayne Rooney may decide to quit Old Trafford that they are lining up his replacement.

The England striker will be out of contract next summer and is believed to want to make a decision on his future once the season has developed.

Edinson Cavani is the international strike partner of fellow Uruguayan Luis Suarez and is according to the report disillusioned by football in France’s Ligue 1. Cavani has an impressive record despite not being a regular starter for PSG with 18 goals in 26 appearances.

The report in the Mirror via Steve Bates of the Sunday People states that David Moyes has agreed a swoop for the wantaway making him a top target. The Uruguayan striker cost PSG £53million and it is stated that Manchester United would need to find £55million for his services.

Moyes has hinted that a major signing could be on the cards.

“Judging by trips I’ve made recently and the things I am hearing, what has happened so far this season won’t be an issue when we sign players,” he said.

“The number of big players wanting to join Manchester United is incredible.

“Maybe players want to go to other clubs for the money but if you ask them where they really want to be, what badge they really want to wear, then they’ll say Manchester United.”

The 26-year-old Cavani moved from Napoli to PSG in the summer where he bagged 104 goals in just 138 appearences for the Serie A outfit. Cavani scored 33 goals in each of his first two seasons at Napoli followed by 38 in his third, finishing as Serie A top scorer with 29 league goals.

England will likely face Uruguay with Cavani up-front with Suarez when they play them at the World Cup group stage. Cavani has netted 20 goals in 60 international appearances. Cavani is well-known for his ability to score spectacular goals as well as his excellent work-rate.
