Manchester United to offer Federico Macheda five year deal says agent

The teenager, who joined United from Lazio's youth system, has been a revelation for the club this season, producing match winning performances from the bench in each of United's last two Premier League victories. Macheda announced himself to the English public with a spectacular goal from the edge of the box to earn United a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford, and followed that by again returning United to the top of the table, when he emerged from the substitutes' bench to divert Michael Carrick's wayward shot beyond Craig Gordon at Sunderland on Saturday. An the player's agent, Giovanni Bia, believes that Macheda will be rewarded for his efforts by a new contract in the summer that will keep him at the club until 2014. 'When he's 18 we'll talk again,' said Bia. 'I think Manchester will ask us to sign a five-year deal and I think that would be logical because it makes no sense to lose a lad at 21. We haven't talked about figures.' Despite all the attention Macheda has been receiving since his breakthrough in to the United first team, his team-mates believe there is no danger of him getting carried away and believing the hype. 'He's quite level-headed and I don't think any of the lads would let him get carried away anyway,' said goalkeeper Ben Foster. 'Gary Neville would quickly put his foot down on anything like that.' Paul Scholes, who opened the scoring at the Stadium of Light before Kenwyne Jones equalised, setting the scene for more heroics from Macheda, echoed Foster's sentiments. 'It's great to be able to throw on a young lad like that,' Scholes said. 'He looks like a great goalscorer and I'm sure the other boys will keep his feet on the ground.'
