Manchester United tell Wayne Rooney: you're going nowhere

Manchester United have insisted that they are not prepared to lose Wayne Rooney as well as Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the season.

Rumours have been rife since Sir Alex announced his retirement plans that Rooney had told the club he also wanted to quit.

Those stories are unconfirmed but it is known that Rooney has not been happy with his bit-part role in recent months.

The arrival of Robin Van Persie, and his many match-winning performances, have stolen Rooney’s thunder and he’s believed to be miffed about no longer being number one.

The retirement of Sir Alex seems to have confirmed Rooney’s view that it is also time to move on, and there will be no shortage of offers for the England striker.

Moneybags PSG, along with Bayern Munich and the usual suspects from Spain are sure to be interested but, as things stand, United insist Rooney is going nowhere.

As far as Everton are concerned, there is already a worry amongst Toffees fans that the likes of Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini could follow David Moyes to Old Trafford.

More on this and confirmation of Moyes’ appointment to follow here on sport.co.uk and football.co.uk.
