Manchester United target Madrid's Di Maria as Nani replacement

Manchester United are keeping an eye on Angel Di Maria's situation at Real Madrid as a potential replacement for Nani.

United face the prospect of losing the Portuguese in the summer as talks over a new contract have failed to find a resolution.

The winger's current deal expires in 2014 and the club are already planning for his departure.

A final round of talks is scheduled but if Nani does go, Di Maria could be coming in.

United scouted the Argentina international extensively and approached Benfica over a sale back in 2010 but Madrid trumped them.

Jose Mourinho splashed out over £20m for the winger but his performances in Spain have been mixed.

Reports in Portugal claim the 24-year-old could be moved on in the summer and that has placed United on alert.

Di Maria has a long contract at the Bernabeu - his existing deal still has five years to run - but that will not put Sir Alex Ferguson off if Nani does go.
