Manchester United target Hummels to accept 38m summer switch

After months of speculation it seems the player who has been most linked with a move to Manchester United might actually be on his way with reports suggesting the player has accepted the transfer.

The report in the Daily Mail reveals that the club captain is unhappy with the poor season at Dortmund which at one time had the club looking at the prospect of a relegation battle. United have been keeping tabs on Mats Hummels since the 2011-12 season when the club won a league and cup double.

The 26-year-old defender has an impressive CV and Dortmund want £36million to break their resistance to selling the player. Such a figure may not be a stumbling block for United and Louis van Gaal will look to ensure a valuation can be made and business done.

The report states that Hummels feels he has been loyal ‘long enough’ and that he will be hoping that an exit package to smooth his arrival at Old Trafford. With Champions League football looking unlikely next season for Dortmund and with Manchester United looking a good bet for a top-four finish the cultured defender would do his media profile no harm at all at United.

Hummels has twice won the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund as well as winning a runners-up medal at the 2012-13 Champions League final. Hummels is also of course a World Cup winner which is not a bad haul so far.
