Valencia need to raise funds to pay off their mounting debts, but were seemingly determined to hold on to their two most prized assets.[LNB]However, with a much-needed cash injection vital if the club is to stay afloat, Valencia director Fernando Gomez said: "The club made a great effort to keep our players this summer but our economic situation remains very serious. [LNB]"It was a success to keep them, but there comes a point when you can't stand it any more. We may have to sell Villa."[LNB]United were linked with the pair over the summer, as were Real Madrid and Barcelona, but no moves materialised as Valencia demanded £50m a piece.[LNB]With Real having already splashed out £200m on the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka, their interested wained, as did Barca's, while United were unable to convince Villa to leave Spain for the Premier League.[LNB]The Mirror reports, however, that they may have more luck this time round, and funds should not be an issue, especially with Ronaldo's world record transfer still swelling the Old Trafford coffers.[LNB]United currently have three established, world class strikers in their ranks - Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen - and Ferguson is keen to recruit a fourth, hence the interest in 27-year-old Villa.[LNB]Silva, meanwhile, is only 23 and is seen as the ideal replacement for Ryan Giggs, who is nearing the end of his United career.[LNB][LNB]
