Manchester United sign Mame Biram Diouf as Owen Hargreaves set for September return

Diouf will attend a medical in Manchester next week with a view to joining the club in January. Until then the 21-year-old will remain with Molde on loan. No transfer fee has been disclosed for a player who is currently the top scorer in the Tippeligaen, Norway's football league, with 12 goals in 17 games. "We weren't intending on signing anyone else after last week - we feel we have a full squad - but the situation accelerated to a point where other clubs started to make bids, so we had to decide whether we acted or didn't act," Ferguson said. Ferguson, meanwhile, is expecting Hargreaves to be back in action in two months' time. The 28-year-old has been plagued by knee injuries since his £18 million move from Bayern Munich in 2007 and it had been feared that he may not play again this year. But United manager Ferguson said he would join the club for the Audi Cup in Munich at the conclusion of their Asia tour later this month. "He's completed his rehabilitation in the United States, he's had the operation and he will join us in Munich," Ferguson said. "He won't be ready for competitive football but he'll be able to take part in training. "He's been out for a year though so the process may take some time. He may be ready by the first weeks of September but that's a conservative assessment."
