Louis van Gaal's Manchester United are ready to launch a £25million bid for wantaway Liverpool and England star Raheem Sterling.

United's Dutch task-master van Gaal feels that Sterling – a self-confessed fan of the Red Devils – will leave Liverpool during the summer transfer window and has tabled a bid that is set to spark a bidding war with their rivals in the blue half of Manchester.

The Old Trafford club made tentative enquiries for Sterling last month but their approach was flat out rejected. This hasn't put United off though, with van Gaal set to test their rivals resolve with a £25million bid coming in the next week, according to the Mirror today.

Louis van Gaal believes Sterling would excel at United, but the Red Devils bid which will be rejected by Liverpool, could see Manchester City move in with a bid of their own for the 20-year-old, whose agent states won't be signing a new deal with the Reds.

City are looking to freshen up their squad after failing to defend their Premier League crown and would be willing to meet Liverpool's £40-50million valuation of Sterling. Chelsea, Arsenal, Madrid and Bayern are also keeping tabs on Sterling's situation at Anfield.
