Manchester United are ready to make a £10million summer bid for Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama.

Boss Alex Ferguson checked out the Kenyan, 21, on Tuesday night when he scored in a 4-0 win over Dundee United.

The Red Devils have watched him in every Champions League game this season, including the 2-1 home win over Barcelona in which Wanyama scored.

The 6ft 2in star is a strong defensive midfielder who can also play at centre-back.

Ferguson needs midfielders this summer with Paul Scholes, 38, and Ryan Giggs, 39, set to retire.

United face competition from Arsenal with Arsene Wenger believing Wanyama is the man to beef up their team.

But Celtic chief Neil Lennon wants to keep a player he bought from Belgian side Beerschot in 2011 for £900,000.
