Manchester United may pay asking price for Carlos Tevez

United have thus far been reluctant to pay such a huge sum for the Argentine, whose two-year £6m loan deal is set to expire. However, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City both strongly linked with the 25-year-old, who has shown he can handle the pace and rigours of the Premier League, United may bow to MSI's demands. Kia Joorabchian, who heads the group of investors who own the striker's economic rights, is adamant whoever eventually signs Tevez will pay the designated fee. Gill said: "It is clear we have an option. That is the deal we signed in 2007. "If we wish to secure his rights and agree a personal contract with him, we have to pay a certain sum. That is £25.5m. "It's a decision we are taking and assessing what we wish to do. "Our honest opinion in the current economic climate is that it is a bit toppy but that is not to say that we won't pay that. "Other clubs may be prepared to pay that so we have to understand we operate in a certain marketplace."
