Manchester United linked with Real Madrid star defender

Manchester United have been looking at their defensive options since Vidic and Ferdinand parted company with several of Europe’s best or most promising players being supposedly linked with moves to Old Trafford.

Another recurring pattern has been the number of Real Madrid players linked and then unlinked over the past few months so it’s with a certain pinch of salt that we read that Sergio Ramos could be moving to the Premier League this summer after a breakdown in contract talks.

The Spanish newspaper AS published a report claiming that the player wants to leave immediately after talks broke down regarding his new contract which sounds somewhat familiar with echoes of the Alves situation. Real Madrid themselves are allegedly unhappy with the attitude of the World Cup winning defender but time will tell if all will be ok in a couple of weeks time as per the veteran Dani Alves.

The 29-year-old Sergio Ramos does still have a few years at the top left in him but isn't a player that has moved between clubs often. The Spaniard has been with Real Madrid since 2005 and only played previously for Sevilla for a couple of seasons early in his senior career and as a youth. Real Madrid at the time broke the record for a Spanish teenage transfer at 27 million euros. Ramos has made an impressive 314 league appearances and contributed 40 goals for the Galacticos.

Ramos has never played outside of La Liga but has won everything there is to win in Spain so perhaps a change of horizon could provide the player with new impetus? Cope believes that a deal is possible at the right pricing point, whatever that is.
