Manchester United invite European Cup heroes of 1968 to Wembley

ShareManchester United will be inviting all the remaining members of their 1968 European Cup-winning team to Wembley on Saturday after all.[LNB]Although many of their former players would have been attending in various guises anyway, it emerged some would not, including Brian Kidd, who scored one of the goals that secured a 4-1 win over Benfica.[LNB]Now assistant manager at Manchester City, who will play alongside United in the Champions League next season next season, Kidd is said to have asked Blues officials if there was any chance of finding him tickets.[LNB] Invite: Manchester United's 1968 European Cup heroes have been invited to Saturday's Champions League final [LNB]Kidd will have no need to continue his search.[LNB]Although all members of the 1968 squad were offered the opportunity to purchase tickets and there was no precedent for United inviting former players beyond the survivors of the 1958 Munich air crash, who were offered the chance to attend the 2008 final in Moscow as part of the club's 50th anniversary commemorations, the club have accepted they madea mistake.[LNB]It is understood all the players still alive will be contacted tomorrow morning with an invitation to attend Saturday's encounter with Barcelona.[LNB] At a reunion in 2005, several members of the '68 team pose with Benfica legend Eusebio.
