Reports in The Mirror are suggesting that Manchester United may be looking to bring in Athletic Bilbao starlet Oscar de Marcos.

It is understood that Sir Alex Ferguson has sent brother Martin – his top European scout to watch the 23-year-old play against Barcelona at the weekend as Ferguson looks to bring in some fresh legs to the Old Trafford midfield.

The player first caught the eye of Sir Alex during last season's Europa League meetings, in which Athletic Bilbao thoroughly outplayed the Red Devils. Although Athletic's initial valuation of ₤25 million is thought to have dampened United's interest.

The Basque midfielder is now back on Ferguson's radar as he feels Athletic may be willing to lower their asking price after the club and the player have endured a poor start to the seaason.

United would still have to pay a fee believed to be in the region of ₤20 million, however, the player would be eligible to play in the next round of the Champions League for the Manchester club.

De Marcos has often been likened to former Old Trafford star Roy Keane and would offer the hard working, all-action style that Ferguson's team currently lacks.
