Manchester United drawn at Barnsley in League Cup

Holders Manchester United will face Championship (second division) Barnsley away in the last 16 of the English League Cup. Saturday's draw also paired Liverpool with Arsenal at the Emirates while Tottenham Hotspur, winners in 2007-08 and runners-up last season, host Everton. Premier League leaders Chelsea are at home to Bolton Wanderers. Scunthorpe United, one of only three non-Premier League teams still involved, travel to Manchester City while Peterborough, also of the Championship, are away at Blackburn Rovers. Ties will be played in the week commencing October 26. Premier League champions United will use the trip to surprise 2007-08 FA Cup semi-finalists Barnsley as a chance to give their squad players and youngsters an opportunity to shine -- a policy also preferred by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. A youthful Arsenal side thrashed Liverpool 6-3 at Anfield in the competition in 2007 before going on to lose in the final to Chelsea. (Reporting by Martyn Herman; Editing by Clare Fallon)
