Manchester United could be hit by new Champions League seeding update

New regulations published by the European football governing body mean that Manchester United and Arsenal could face much stiffer opposition in the early rounds of the competition.

The updated rules change the way that teams had previously been seeded which would take into account the past five-years worth of results in UEFA tournaments.

The new seeding process will be introduced next season and will place into pot 1 the Champions League winners as well as the champions from Europe’s top seven divisions.

Juventus, Zenit and PSG are all likely to benefit from the new system whilst Real Madrid could fall out of pot 1 should they finish 2nd in La Liga and fail to win the Champions League.
