Sir Alex Ferguson has been told to sign Wesley Sneijder by one of the most senior figures at Manchester United.[LNB]The Barclays Premier League champions are desperate to reinforce their midfield after Paul Scholes decided to retire at the end of last season.[LNB]And Sneijder would be 'ideal' for United, according to Old Trafford first-team coach Rene Meulensteen.[LNB] So Inter you: Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has urged manager Sir Alex Ferguson to sign Wesley Sneijder [LNB]The Inter Milan midfielder remains one of their leading transfer targets - alongside Tottenham's Luka Modric - and there are signs that the Italian giants may be tempted to sell the ?35million-rated Holland international.[LNB]Dutchman Meulensteen said: 'Wesley Sneijder would fit perfect here. He is the most ideal player for us that I can think of.[LNB]'I don't say that because he is Dutch. I have been at Manchester United for a while, I know all the ins and outs of  the team and I know that he would be a great reinforcement.[LNB]'The new Paul Scholes does not exist, just as there is not a new Roy Keane, but I cannot think of anyone more perfect for us than Sneijder.'[LNB]A product of the famous Ajax academy, dead-ball specialist Sneijder, 27, moved to Milan from Real Madrid in 2009 and played a vital role as Inter won an historic treble under Jose Mourinho two seasons ago.[LNB] Make a move: First team coach Meulensteen believes Fergie should strike for the Inter Milan ace[LNB]Meulensteen is in his second spell at Old Trafford and has been a key member of Ferguson's backroom staff since being promoted to his current role in 2008.[LNB]He told Dutch magazine Voetbal International: 'Sneijder is not a runner, but perfectly two-footed. He can run the game and puts the ball whereever he wants.[LNB]'To me, he seems a perfect addition to players like Hernandez, Rooney, Park, Young, Valencia, Nani and Giggs. Plus, Wesley has plenty of experience in top football, of course.[LNB]'I don't know how his future is at Inter, of course - whether he is allowed to leave and whether we can pay him. But purely on the basis of his ability, I would say "Get Sneijder".'[LNB]The Holland midfielder, who is under contract at the San Siro until June 2015, is also a target for Chelsea and Manchester City.[LNB] Missing link: United are stepping up their search to replace retired midfield linchpin Paul Scholes[LNB]'I have no doubt that Sneijder is a great player,' said new Inter manager Gian Piero Gasperini. [LNB]'It's difficult to know what can happen in the next 50 days of the transfer market.[LNB]'Inter want to become even stronger. Two years ago Zlatan Ibrahimovic left the club but the team was strengthened and became even stronger.[LNB]'Wesley's situation does not worry me. In recent years, Inter have made fewer mistakes in the transfer market than other clubs and have made the best choices. Hence, I can only be optimistic.'[LNB]  Sneijder tipped to snub Chelsea and Manchester United as Inter boss backs his star to stay putFergie: Barca beat me to ?35m Sanchez... but Sneijder and Modric are still in my sightsEngland star for hire... via Youtube!
