Manchester United look set to further invest in the future with the acquisition of another highly-rated European international. The reports which focus on the prospect of United being without Michael Carrick who will be out of contract in the Summer and having to cope with a now injury prone Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The 18-year-old Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches is allegedly the target with the Portuguese paper A Bola stating that a £40m deal has already been agreed to relocate the Benfica star to Old Trafford in the summer.

Sanches signed a new six-year contract in November 2015 which also states a €45 million release clause. That should give you an idea how much the club rate their prize asset and the protection to ensure they profit from his inevitable departure. United seem undaunted by such figures and have already spent huge sums on young players like Martial. According to the report they have offered €50 million for Sanches, €5m more than the release clause.

The player was born in Lisbon and started training with Aguias da Musgueira at the age of 8 before joining the ranks of the Benfica youth system in 2006. Sanches has played at every level of the Portuguese national team, making his senior debut in 2016.
