Manchester United await De Gea showdown before confirming transfer move

Manchester United have put certain transfers on hold whilst they await the decision of current No.1 keeper David de Gea. The loan of Sam Johnstone to Preston North End is currently on hold with Louis van Gaal concerned that the Red Devils may find themselves with insufficient back-up says a report in the Daily Star.

De Gea is yet to decide on his future with the 24-year-old strongly linked with Real Madrid but having stated that he will make any decision with his family during the season break. The little information there is available to form any kind of prediction does seem to suggest a move is more likely than not and United have been preparing for the future with first team replacements having been sounded out over the past weeks.

Sam Johnstone helped Preston North End to promotion last season when he joined the then League One outfit on loan and it seems that Preston are keen to continue the relationship this season and bringing the player to the Championship. This move will remain on hold until De Gea has made his decision which does suggest that it is not clear who will come in and with other United backup having been released or transferred the situation could add to a concerning situation.

It seems United would obviously prefer De Gea to stay and are at least remaining discreet with any deals regarding a replacement until they know for sure what the future will look like and despite the source suggesting that a deal will eventually go through it seems any future preparation is dependant on the Spanish international.
