Manchester United and Arsenal are battling for PSV Eindohven's midfield enforced Kevin Strootman, who has made no secret of his desire to play at the top level of football. The Dutchman could get his wish as early as January, according to The Sun.

The 22 year old has been linked with Manchester United for a while now – and having been likened to Manchester United legend Roy Keane, a transfer has been on the cards for the Dutchman to join fellow countrymen Robin van Persie and Alex Buttner at the Theatre of Dreams.

Manchester United head scout and brother of Sir Alex, Martin Ferguson has been sent to watch the burly 22 year old in action for PSV – but has not been alone.

Arsenal's head scout Steve Rowley too has given rave reviews to the Arsenal board on the man being hailed by the Dutch press as the 'new Mark van Bommel'. Quite a title.

A rumoured 'top PSV source' revelead: “It looks certain that he will leave in January. The only question is where?”

“It looks like Manchester United or Arsenal – they are both very keen.”

No doubt the lure of Manchester United will sway Strootman to Manchester – but dont rule Arsenal out the race, just yet.
