Manchester City v Manchester United: United threw away the title last season, says Roberto Mancini

City host their great rivals on Sunday for the first time since
overhauling them in dramatic fashion to win the league last May.
Mancini stoked up the tension ahead of the afternoon game by claiming City’s
triumph was made possible because United
thought that the race was won when they built up an eight-point lead with
six games to go.
“They thought it was over,” the City manager said bluntly of why United
stuttered, losing two and drawing one as Mancini’s side won all their final
half-dozen matches to claw back the lead and claim the title on goal
difference on the final day of the season.
“This is football, it can happen sometimes you don’t know why.”
Mancini said his side’s 1-0 win over United in April – a crucial victory in
the run-in – gave him greater satisfaction that the 6-1 rout at Old Trafford
earlier in the campaign.
