Man United prepare colossal bid for Hummels in final push

The deal to secure a world-class defender finally looks to be on track to conclude in January rather than in the summer with a massive £37m bid. It’s an astonishing figure that United hope will persuade Borussia Dortmund to part with their talismanic captain. Mats Hummels is widely consider one of the finest defenders in the world and would suit Luis van Gaal down to the ground as he continues to rebuild the Red Devils.

ESPN have reported that Old Trafford bosses intend to make one ‘last big push’ to acquire Mats Hummels or Aymeric Laporte over the final days of the transfer window. The report states via their own sources that United will only pursue their highest priority targets and delay until the summer if January is impossible. That said the report claims that the club are encouraged by talks from both parties.

A bid for Hummels was placed as early as last November and sources for the report have claimed that bid has not been entirely rejected. Any delay is likely to be Dortmund looking to provide cover for the loss of their player but you would think with £37m they should also get change.

Hummels, who has just returned from injury was named in the 10-man shortlist for the FIFA Golden Ball at the 2014 World Cup and has been with Dortmund since 2008.
