Man United linked with huge £35m summer bid for Valencia star Villa

Manchester United are set to sign Spain striker David Villa for £35m this summer, according to a Sunday newspaper report.

The 28-year-old, currently at Valencia, is also a target for Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, as well as Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Villa has been in sparkling form again this season, with his Europa League hat-trick against Werder Bremen taking his goal tally to 22 in 34 matches.

And the Daily Star Sunday are reporting that a top Spanish source says United are the favourites to sign the player.

With the world's best three players - Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney - all tied to their clubs, the battle to sign Villa is sure to be a frantic one.

Villa joined Valencia in 2005, and has established himself as one of Europe's hottest properties.

He played a starring role for Spain in their memorable success at Euro 2008.
