Man United blow as defender Nemanja Vidic will miss start of the season

Calf injury: Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic[LNB]Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has been ruled out of the start of the Barclays Premier League season with a calf injury.[LNB]Vidic will miss the Community Shield showpiece against Chelsea on Sunday at Wembley and the following game against Birmingham City.[LNB]Wes Brown is also sidelined this weekend with a thigh problem but is expectedback for the opening Premier League match. [LNB]Gary Neville is back in training but is unlikely to feature in the Community Shiel because of a groin strain.[LNB]United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: Ferguson said: "Neither Wes orNemanja have long-term injuries. I would expect Wes to be fit for thegame a week on Sunday.[LNB]'As for Vidic he pulled his calf in the warm-up in Munich (against Bayern Munich) and is two weeks away.[LNB]'Gary is doing a little bit of training and coming on fine but I do not think he will make Sunday.'[LNB]With goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar out for up to ten weeks withbroken fingers, Ferguson has to choose between Ben Foster and TomaszKuszczak against Chelsea.[LNB]Ferguson added: 'We have a selection dilemma as to who plays in goal on Sunday.
