Luke could be a 'Shaw' thing for Man United if Baines stays at Everton

With Everton looking pretty well set to play hardball over any further approach for their left back Leighton Baines, Manchester United appear to be looking at other options. According to the online version of the Express, among others, high on their list is young Southampton tyro Luke Shaw.

Shaw, was highlighted as one of All Blue Daze’s ‘Ten to Watch’ for this season, and already in the first game of the new term, not only was he instrumental in keeping a clean sheet for the saints, in a difficult away game at West Bromwich Albion, he was also the player fouled to result in the game-deciding penalty. It’s probably safe to say however that it wasn’t a single ninety minutes that brought the youngster to United’s attention.

As last season drew to a close, Shaw was one of the players widely touted to be approached by some of the country’s leading clubs, anxious to poach another rising star away from St Mary’s. Southampton moved quickly however to offer Shaw a new contract, which he was wisely prepared to accept, confident that at least one more season on the south coast would be valuable in his development as a player.

With United’s initial bid for Baines rebuffed however, and apparently the club highly reluctant to countenance any new offer unless it was of the ‘mega’ order, both Shaw and Southampton may have their resolve tested.
